Well our season is over as you probably have figured out.  There are 4 days of school left and we are so ready for it.  Thank you so much for reading this blog and if you came to games to support the team, thank you so much.  I will not be writing on this blog again until next school year, probably when indoor starts.  Thanks again for all your support!

Awards banquet

Each year the coaches of the league get together and have a HUGE bragging fest about their players. The coach from TCA decided to brag about his player Shea Haycock and how she had scored in every game… oh wait that’s right she scored in every game, but one. Hannah Cooling did not allow that munch-kin to score. Then Coach Keidel continued to brag about the rest of us and our wonderfully amazing keeper. After that meeting the league gives out League players of the year and honorable mentions.

Last night was the soccer team awards banquet. We had a great time with lots of laughter and sadly tears at the end- No thanks to Jalyn and Keely. Then after the coach had talked about all of us and said how much he appreciated each of us he called Cody and Bailey back up to the front. When Bailey and Cody got up there Coach started talking about the Coaches meeting again and it turns out that they both received honorable mention by the Tri- Peaks league for the soccer season of 2007-2008!! Then Keely, Jen and Jalyn all received League Players from the Tri-Peaks League. Then to top the evening off, BVHS’ very own Jalyn McMurry received All State. Coach said she is probably the best keeper this team has ever seen, and I couldn’t agree more. And what makes me happy is I got to play with her all the years that she played keeper for the Demons.

We were an extremely strong team who should have gone to state, but didn’t. I am sad that the season is over, but look, 5 of us received league awards, that’s pretty impressive.

The end of both the JV and V seasons has finally come, but to the disappiontment to most of the girls.   We will get together one last time as a team next Tuesday and share all our happy memories about the season, and I guess all the tough ones as well.  I’m so grateful I got the cnahce to play for such a wonderful team.

BV vs TCA

We had to win. There was nothing else to it. If we wanted to go to state we had to win. We came into the game totally prepared to beat TCA just like last year. We weren’t ready for our soccer season to be over. This was the best the team had been in a long time. We did our visual warm up,and our routine warm up and were ready to play. TCA had a sophomore who had scored 27 goals so far but we were determined not to let her score. Hannah was to mark her the whole game, no matter what. We started the game and were instantly on the defense. They got some shots off early in the game but none went in. We realized then that we were going to have to work really hard if we wanted to be the team to move on to the state play offs. TCA played tough and did a good job keeping the ball on our half, but we did a good job defending them and denying their shots. The first half was hard but good. By the end of the half we were still scoreless and so was TCA. The second half started just as the first. TCA was pretty physical but not quite as physical as Fountain, but the ref didn’t catch much. As the half passed we started to get more physical as well but still couldn’t put a shot on frame, or take a shot at all. Then TCA got a corner kick. The ball was sent in and everyone was marked but some how #4 got the ball and put it right between Cody and Jalyn who were both in the goal. We had about 15 minutes to get a goal. But we couldn’t. For some reason we couldn’t get the ball to the other end of the field. The clock was ticking down. 2 minutes, 1 minute. And then to the BVHS soccer team’s dismay the buzzer sounded. We had only gotten one shot on goal the entire game. We were not going to state. Our season was over.

BV vs CSCS

On Tuesday the 22nd we played CSCS who was the second best team in the league.  We had two extremely important games that week and had to win at least one or both if we wanted to go to state.  We were all pretty nervous for the game but were ready to do our best.  After our last game against Fountain Valley we were a little concerned that CSCS might play like Fountain.  The game started and we did a good job defending them. We had Hannah marking specifically so that was also very helpful. We also did a pretty good job on the offense.  Then some time in the first half they broke through all of the defense but Cody.  It was 2 v 1 and then to goal against Jalyn.  They easily put the ball into the back of the net.  It was 0-1.  We had to score if we wanted any chance of going to state.  At half we discussed the things we were doing well which out numbered the things that needed working on than in most games.  We started the second half with 2 goals in mind. Scoring and not letting them score.  We played well throughout the half but couldn’t get the ball into the back of the net.  Finally with 5 minutes to go Carrie got the ball down to the corner and crossed it.  Bailey was there and took the shot.  It went right into the net.  We were tied 1-1!  It was amazing.  We were the come back team of the season it seemed.  Then the game went into over time and then double over time.  In the last 30 seconds of double over time we got a corner kick.  Cody sprinted to the end of field and got the ball that had gone out because the ball boy was a little behind.  Not to her knowledge however they had stopped the clock for her.  She put the ball on the corner caught her breath and raised her left hand.  She sent the ball right into the box.  It was one of the most perfect corners all season.  The ball bounced off Carrie’s stomach and went straight towards Cally’s head.  However Cally’s hand was right next to her head and instead of using her head to hit the ball, she hit it in with her hand.  We had scored but it didn’t count.  The game was over and we had tied 1-1.  If we wanted to go to state we had to win on friday, we had to beat TCA.

BV vs Fountain Valley

In the past Fountain Valley has beaten us 3-1, and 2-1.  This year we were hoping to play them just as well in the past or better.  We arrived at the field a little tired because we had already played a game.  When we were stretching a blue healer came running across the fields right at us.  He was the friendliest cutest little dog ever.  He would roll in the grass and pull himself on his stomach across the grass.  Then once we had started warm up the dog started to play with us.  It was great.  Finally Fountain Valley came out onto the field and started their warm up.  We were all feeling lethargic but ready to play our best.  We were informed that they had a really good freshman on their team who apparently had insane foot skills.  Along with here was #17 who had scored the winning goal against us in the the last 2 seconds of double over time to win the game last year.  The game started and Fountain was instantly on the attack.  We defended them well and made them frustrated within the fist 5 minutes.  The 8 ( the really good freshman) got the ball and passed it to 17 who was standing just outside the 18.  Cody Lewis went to pressure the ball.  17 took her shot and hit Lewis in the back.  However the deflection went to a different Vally player who took her shot, the ball went into the back of the net.  BVHS was disappointed that we had let that happen.  We were well aware that we could have done a better job defending that.  Fountain continued to pressure the box and goal but Jalyn denied their shots.  We were getting pretty frustrated- a mild way of putting it- at the players on Fountain. They were extra physical, actually they were unnecessarily physical, and they had some pretty rude and annoying things to say.  To top it off the refs seemed to be calling for Fountain.  Cody Lewis did a good job running the defense and shutting down both 8 and 17 and getting lots of bruises to prove it.  By the end of the first half it was still 1-0 Fountain.  We had a good talk at half time and felt ready for another 40 minutes of tough frustrating soccer.  The second half started and again Valley was down on our half.  Again the defense shut them down and denied their shots.  Lewis was getting so beat up back there but she was doing and excellent job running back.  At one point Lewis was standing in the middle of the field when Valley sent a through ball to 8, but the ball was a little bit in front of her.  Lewis booked it to the ball, saw 8 coming, slide tackled the ball to clear it, and when 8 caught up with the ball it was too late for her. She hit Lewis’ legs and went flying through the air.  It was a safe play and the ref called to play on.  For the rest of the game it seemed like 8 was out to get Cody.  Of course our entire team was out to get 8.  Then someone passed Bailey the ball who took it down to the kill zone.  Bailey sent in her cross, but it ended up between the keeper and the post.  It was tied up at 1-1.  Fountain was mad and ready to get back at BV, and they did.  Within 2 minutes of scoring Fountain got the ball down into the box and 8 took a shot that went low and wide into the far corner.  We were losing again.  Fountain continued to play hard and mean through out the rest of the half.  In fact 8 punched one of our players, didn’t get a card and then she tried to take Jalyn out, but the ref was right there and she got a card.  17 and 8 were getting really frustrated that they couldn’t get the ball into the back of the net anymore and by the end of the game it was still 2-1.  We had played an excellent game against Fountain Valley and even though we lost we all felt good about the game. We were ready for the next 2 games that were coming up on Tuesday and Friday.     Today we play CSCS here at 4:00 and then on Friday we play TCA there.  We need to win one or both of the games if we want to go to state.  We would love your support in the stands.

BV vs CSS

On Saturday BVHS soccer went down to the Springs to play two soccer games.  The first game was against CSS.  Our plan for this game was to play possession and then score.  We did a really good job doing both of those.  As the sweeper I got really really bored in the first half because all I did was stand on the half line and helped a little with the play but mostly watched.  Poor Jalyn looked really bored as she stood about half way to center field. At one point Cody Lewis got the ball dribbled towards the box, passed it to Bailey, called for the drop pass.  Bailey rolled the ball back to Cody, who took a beautiful left footed shot.  The ball went just over the cross bar.  She looked so bummed that that shot missed.  BVHS continued to get good shots on goal but none of them would go into the net.  Then the first half ended.  It was still 0-0 but we were acting like it was 5-0.  When the second half started Coach had re-arranged the line up.  Cody Lewis went to left wing, Bailey went to sweeper, April went into the goal, Jalyn come onto the field, and Tessa went to Center Mid.  We played a well again in the second half and by the end Keely, Jessie, and Jen had all scored. We won the game 3-0 and were ready for our next game against Fountain Valley.

BV vs Trinidad

Yesterday we beat Trinidad 4-0 at home. In the first 30 seconds Jen Pratt scored. You could see Trinidad’s faces fall after that first minute. BVHS had some great passing sequences, and did a pretty good job of keeping possession of the ball. Later on in the half Keely Blake scored. Later on Cody Lewis got the ball on top of the 18 and took the left footed shot, the ball hit the top corner of the cross bar. We had a few more shots on goal in the half but none of them went in. By the end of the half we were winning 2-0. However we should have been beating them by a lot more, we were the better team and yet we couldn’t seem to be able to hit the ball into the back of the net. In the second half Bailey Mac got the ball outside the 18 and dribbled it down tot the end line area and crossed it.  Except instead of someone on our team getting the ball it slipped between the keeper and the post and went into the back of the net.  3-0!    Then later on in the game Jen Pratt received the ball out in front of the goal and shot with her left foot, the ball slipped into the back of the net, 4-0. We continued to attack the goal and had multiple shots on goal but none went in. All of our attempts on goal were good ones but by the final whistle we still hadn’t scored.  The final score was 4-0.  This win was really good for us because it was a league game that helped ensure our spot in the state play offs.   Our next home game is against CSCS on Tuesday the 22 at 4:00pm, for all you locals we would love your support.  You don’t have to pay to come watch us play  =]
